Ravi Vinayak has a 20+ year background as a scientist and a business development executive in academia and industry. He founded New Trail Consulting so that he could inspire and share his vast knowledge and experience in technology transactions, business development, licensing, strategic planning and negotiations. Ravi is well known for his technical contributions to Chemistry and Biology of Nucleic Acids, DNA Synthesis, DNA sequencing, Real Time PCR and Mass Spectrometry. After obtaining his Ph.D. from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, Ravi did his post-doctoral research at The Nucleic Acids Research Institute, Costa Mesa, California and at The California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, California. Ravi has published over 40 papers in peer reviewed journals, obtained several patents and contributed to several book chapters relating to Nucleic Acids Chemistries and technologies. Ravi started his industry career as an Associate Scientist rising to the rank of Senior Business Development executive at Applied Biosystems (now Life Technologies) during a career spanning 16 years. In this role at Applied Biosystems, Ravi led, managed and directed activities relating to new technology transactions. In addition, he nurtured relationships with major alliances including University Tech Transfer offices, start-ups and academic institutions worldwide. Ravi also led interdisciplinary team effort in conducting business analysis identifying clear and compelling cases for licensing, partnering, or acquisition of new technologies. He has also been a Partner at Ventac Partners that specializes in providing Management and IP consulting to start-ups, mid-sized companies as well as University Spin offs. Ravi served as Chief Business Officer at Ahram Biosystems where he set up sales, distribution, marketing, and business development activities for their portable PCR device. Until recently, Ravi, also managed Qiagen’s Point of Care OEM business (in immunodiagnostics and molecular diagnostics) for North America and Asia. Currently, Ravi is spending most of his time as a Consultant to the Biotech industry on issues related to Business development, Technology Transactions (including licensing and negotiations), Strategic Partnering and Sales & Marketing (Genomics, Point Of Care and diagnostics). His broad technical knowledge combined with outstanding leadership ability and creative problem solving skills enables him to quickly establish credibility with senior management and business partners. Ravi is willing to undertake new consulting assignments that can utilize his expertise. |
